If you saw Monday's post, you'll know that we're fostering this 4-ish week old kitten named Salem. I am not a cat person, but I'm a bit enamored with her. That said, there's been a few surprises with her and Nola! I've never had a dog and a cat together, and these past few days have had a few...incidents.

1. Litter Box? Oh, you mean play box!
Sigh. I didn't think Nola would bother the litter box, but she does. She doesn't try and eat anything out of it, but she likes to push her nose into it and make little furrows in the litter. It's kind of funny, actually! She'll nudge the kitten out of the box so she can nose around in it.
2. Cat food is really dog crack
Nola has a high food drive, and will work for pretty much anything. Up until Salem, her highest value reward has been hotdogs. Now, on the other hand...well, she'll scream bloody murder and walk through fire to get a tiny bit of cat food.
3. Nola is a cat-seeking missile
Salem is tiny, at just 13.5oz. Because of this and because I want to supervise her interactions with Nola until she's large enough to smack if the dogs get too rough, she's in a large dog crate when she's not being interacted with. However, there's been a few times when she's wandered off, and Nola's had to be sent out to find her. She always does!
4. It's fun to watch kitten fall down pillows
Nola finds it amusing to paw at a pillow kitten is sitting on until she rolls down it onto the couch or bed.
5. Kittens need constant cleaning
Nola's fanatic about keeping kitten clean. Kitten's neck is constantly wet from her bathing.....
It's an adjustment, for sure!
