Well, it wound up not snowing, at least not at my house. It did snow an hour or so away from us, but here it just iced. There was ice on the ground, ice coving the car, ice on the roof, ice on the chicken coop, ice on the bridges and ice on all the street signs. It didn't get above 32 all day.
I don't like the cold! I didn't want to leave the bed yesterday, and trust me, that's saying something. I'm just not built for the cold at only 10.5lbs (DM: and at 118lbs, neither am I)
On the bright side, it'll be warm enough we can go to the beach on Saturday. Welcome to Florida, where you can get sunburnt and frost bitten in the same week.

I Thought This Was Florida! + Trials and Registration

Hey, everyone! I gotta show you something totally crazy:

This is the forecast! You're reading that right; SNOW IN FLORIDA! And not just little flurries that melt on contact, no sir. 1 to 2" of accumulation! I'm so excited! I've never seen snow. DM: and I haven't seen snow since I was....7? 8?
Better bundle up!

I'm also super psyched for a few other reasons, and for this, I shall break out the bullets.

  • Mom finally picked a registered name for my AKC Purebred Alternative Listing (PAL), so we can get that printed out and sent out soon. My official name is Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler (pronounced "LE-say LAY bon Temps RUE-lay"), call name Nola.  Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler means "Let the good times roll" in Cajun French. It's a phrase that's used quite frequently in New Orleans and in reference to Mardi Gras, and since I'm named after New Orleans it's a perfect fit!
Let the good times roll!

  • I'm going to an Earthdog trial February 15-16th! The first part of the trial would just be a sort of aptitude test for me, and if I passed and enjoyed that I'd move on to the Juniour Earthdog Test part of the trial.
What I shall do to the rat once I find it.
DM: Not really, since they're safely in a cage and out of Jaw's reach, but a girl can dream. ;)

  • I also have a Rally Novice trial to attend on March 1st (or 2nd; Mom needs to double check). I've been working really hard to train for this, and I have everything down except for my left finish, which is coming along nicely.

Focus has never been an issue for Nola.

I'm going to be pretty busy, but I'm really excited for it!

DM: Not only do I really enjoy training with Nola, I take an enormous amount of pride in her abilities and how I showcase that just because she's a "difficult" (to some people; to me she's a breeze) breed to train and motive doesn't mean she's any less capable of earning titles and being a well trained companion.
She earned her AKC Canine Good Citizen award at just 2 years old (practically a teenager still for a Dachshund), and it's been my goal to put at least a Rally Novice (RN) title on her. I'd like to go further with her in that, and I'd also like to try and get a Junior Earthdog (JE) title on her as well as a Coursing Ability Test (CAT). The vast majority of Dachshund and small dog owners don't do anything with their dogs, not even basic obedience, and that makes me sad. It also creates a bad image for those owners like myself that work to dispel the notion that small dogs are "useless", "impossible to train", "ankle biters", ect. It's my mission with Nola to be a good breed ambassador and a good ambassador for small dogs.

Behind the Scenes of My 2014 Valentine's Day Header Shoot

Hi, everyone! I'm taking you "backstage"with me to check out my Valentine's Day header shoot. DM: Valentine's Day, after Christmas, is my favorite holiday to shoot headers for. So get comfy, and follow me!
Here's ME (under the blanket) last night watching the Grammys with Mom.
DM: Disappointed with the Grammy winners. Sorry, but Daft Punk annoys me like no other and Lorde's "Royals" is a catchy song but has nothing on Macklemore and Ryan Lewis' "Same Love".

Valentine's Day collar and part of the inspiration for the backdrop.

Chalk colors.

The beautiful, talented, wonderful, sexy, hawt, gawjuss, smart, beautiful, gawjuss model.

My rockin' photo shoot playlist.

DM: Covered in chalk, from my jeans to my phone case to my camera strap to my face to my dog. :p

Blank canvas.

The language of the homeland (German)!

I'm waiting....

Simple but pretty.

Dachshund Nola Reviews: Zumi Leads

Hey, all! Today I'm doing a review for Zumi Leads. Zumi Leads is a small business located in Las Vegas that makes awesome rope leashes and great tugs. Here's a bit about them:

We create handcrafted products we love and we hope you’ll love too! With functionality and style in mind we’ve designed our leads with purpose, flare, and unique twists.
Our love for dogs pushes us to continue creating and expanding. From the sport dog to the casual park walker, we create our leads for everyone to enjoy.
All our materials have been carefully sourced for quality and durability. Each lead is made to order with the same enthusiasm and care as our very first.
Create your lead and put your personal stamp of individuality on it. Stamped with our custom heat embossing you’ll walk proudly knowing your lead is one of a kind.
Whether you’re walking into an agility ring, playing on the beach, or simply out for a stroll ZUMI leads provide reliability with stylish finesse.

Zumi has a really cool rescue/shelter program called "Heeling Start". Rescues and shelters that take part in their program receive 5 free leads and 30% off any leads after that. They're strong, durable and yet soft on the hands, so they're prefect for this.

Zumi leashes come in three styles: Clip (a standard, basic leash), Slip (a slip lead) and Dual. I was sent the Dual, and I love it because it's both a slip lead and a clip! It's great for the beach, where Mom can quickly contain me if need be without fumbling around for a snap.
They come in 2', 4' and 6' lengths and they have 25 beautiful and vibrant colors to choose from. Hardware comes in silver or brass, and you have to option of getting your dog's name and/or symbols stamped into the leather pieces of the leash. You also have the option of getting a handle clip, so you can clip the snap to the handle and toss it over your shoulder when your dog is off leash (once again, great for the beach!).

Zumi has incredible customer service. Mom was an idiot and messed up our zip code when she gave them our address, so my package went all over Florida and back to Nevada before Zumi got it out again to us. They diligently worked to fix the issue, even though it was all on Mom, and kept us up to date on it's location and their progress. DM: I've said it before and I'll say it again: if you have crappy service, it doesn't matter how good your product is. Zumi is one of those rare companies that has both incredible products and phenomenal service!

I was sent a 6ft Dual leash in "Blue Betta" with silver hardware. My name and stairs are stamped near the handle, which offer a great and subtle personal touch. Zumi added a handle clip to mine, and Mom uses it to hook my poop bags to, or to put on her shoulder when I'm off leash. Zumi also sent me a FABULOUS tug toy that I adore.
Great tug!

It's my signature color!

Tons of choices for both color, hardware, length, ect
Personalization available
Fantastic service
Very reasonable prices (ranging from around $16 to around $25)
Easy on the hands
Tug is strong and a blast

I do have one suggestion for Zumi though: offering a slightly smaller leash clip for small dogs would be wonderful. The clip is just fine for use on a harness, but it can be a little bulky clipped to a collar.

      5/5 stars!

Dachshund Nola
