Another Award!

Hi everyone! Didya miss me? Of course you did. Yesterday was all about Boston and the babies, but this blog is named Dachshund Nola and it's about ME! I'll tell you something special about the babies later today, but for now I have received another Liebster Blog Award, this time  from my new friends Brando and Bogart! Thank you so much!!!

Liebster means “dearest” in German, and the award is intended to help up-and-coming blogs get the attention they deserve. As with any award, there is a bit of ceremony involved. In order to accept the award, I must do the following:
1. Copy and paste the award on my blog.
2. Link back to the blogger who gave me the award
3. Pick my five favorite blogs with less than 200 followers, and leave a comment on their blog to let them know they have received the award
4. Hope the blogs I've awarded share it!

YAY!!! It'll be so hard to pick just five!
1. Minnie and Mack's Daily Digest
2. The Adventures of Higgins
3. The Pugs Strike Back
4. Pauley James Former Foster Baby
5. My Dogs Love Me
Thank you to Brando and Bogart! I love my Award!
Check out these blogs everyone, they're fantastic.

A Tasty Tuesday

Hi everyone! Mom made new food yesterday but since she's been sick (she was sick on Christmas, that was no fun at all) she was too tired to post about it yesterday.
So here it it! New food has:
3 1/2 chicken breasts
2 green bell peppers (my favorite!)
10-15 baby carrots
2 celery stalks
3 1/2 cups raw oats
1 cup cooked rice
1 TBSP brewers yeast
1 TBSP organic ground flaxseed
It's so tasty and fresh!
Kisses and Tail Wags,
Dachshund Nola
Boston and I are hungry! She's eating for at least 4! This picture was taken a week ago, she's much bigger now.

Another Card!

I got a card the day before Christmas from my good friend Ramsay of DocsDox. Thanks my friend!

A Doxie With Moxie Muses: Getting A Puppy For Christmas

Hi everyone! I'm introducing a new weekly segment to talk about issues in the pet world. From my personal pet peeves to enormous issues like dog fighting and puppy mills, I'll give you the facts then my own opinion. So tell me where you stand on the these problems, or suggest what you'd like to see talked about next.
So without further ado, here's my very first A Doxie With Moxie Muses: Getting a puppy for Christmas.

Who wouldn't love to wake up to a puppy under the tree? Answer: the puppy.
A puppy needs your full focus, as well as a safe and calm environment. If you're busy with presents, family, friends, food, decoration, money and travel, you simply cannot give your puppy the attention and watchfulness it needs.
Having a puppy come into your life during such a chaotic time isn't fair to you or the puppy. You won't be able to bond as well, the puppy will be scared with such strange sights, sounds and smells on top of new people and having just left the only family it's ever known.
Puppies explore with their mouths. Think about what we have out at Christmas: lights, food, presents and plants that we usually don't have around. Many of the holiday food and plants are poisonous, and don't forget the beautiful Christmas lights and their cords just waiting for your puppy the chew on them and get shocked.
Reputable breeders won't sell you a puppy for Christmas, out of fairness and concern for the puppy.
Now, if you're single or a couple with no kids, and don't have plans for the holidays, Christmas would be a good time to get a shelter dog (as said above, most breeders won't sell a puppy around Christmas) and have you and your partner if you have one give it the attention it deserves. This is only a good idea if you don't have company over or a bunch of unsafe decor.
Once everything calms down, a puppy would be a great way to start the new year if you are ready for 10-15+ commitment. Or go to a shelter and find your new best friend. Either way, please wait for the right time to bring your puppy or dog home.

As you all know, my Gotcha Day is Dec. 9th. This was a perfect time because I was with my family long enough to be bonded and adjusted and could enjoy the Christmas fun. We also didn't have big plans.
So there we go! What did you think? Where do you stand? I mean no offense at all to any dogs that came home on Christmas.

Theses are pawsome because you can change your info at anytime and the only fee you pay is the price of the tag for a lifetime of info storage. For more info check this link out

I Clean Up Nice

So the other day Mom cleaned my ears, brushed me, filed my nails, brushed my teeth, wiped my eyes (they get really watery in the winter) and gave me another bath!! That's like the second one this month! She said something about being clean for company and the holidays, but company and the holidays should love me as I am, smelling of nature! As you can see, it was embarresing. But the brush was nice.
Reluctantly Clean Kisses and Tail Wags,
Dachshund Nola
Watery eyes, but why isn't kitty sister getting a bath

Brush bliss

Neck scratches!!

Smooth and shiny. And NAKED MOM! I have a blog you know, this kind of stuff isn't fit for young pups eyes! "Nola, when has that ever stopped you?''

My Food ''Recipe"

Hi everyone! My new friends Higgins and his Mom are curious about how Mom makes my food and are wanting to know more about it.
As most of you know, I'm allergic to corn and soy. Which is part of the reason Mom and I love homemade food, because you can tailor it to your furbaby's specific needs without it costing an arm and a leg. There's a page above titled ''Food Fit For A Queen (i.e. ME)'' that tells you what ingredients the humans normally use and how they are good for us. Mom also makes our treats, the recipe can be found here.
A Regular Food Recipe-By Dachshund Nola:
Chicken. We just make a whole one and use the dark meat and a very small amount of skin.
Apples. 1 or 2 medium ones
Oats. 1 1/2 cups uncooked
Carrots. 15-20 baby carrots
Celery. 2 stalks
Rice. 2-4 cups
Peas. 1 can
Brewers yeast. 1 tablespoon
Organic ground flaxseed. 1 tablespoon.

Boil the chicken till completely cooked. Separate the dark meat (or white meat, if you like dark) and chop it up into smallish pieces, depending on your dog's size.

Cook the rice, let it cool.

Chop up your veggies and apples into little pieces, and put them and the can of peas into a large mixing bowl.

Add the oats, brewers yeast and flaxseed to the mixing bowl. Stir thoroughly.

Add the cooled rice and chicken into the bowl and mix everything together.

Put it into a tightly sealed container and put it in the fridge, or freeze half in Ziplock bags. This amount normally (when Boston isn't pregnant) lasts about a week for us 3 Doxies. Boston and Auggie get a cup a day and I get 3/4 a cup. The whole process takes about 35-45 minutes and the people spend about $15 to $25 a month for food, which is much cheaper then the high end dog food the people bought before.
We have more energy, shiny soft coats, improved behavior, clean teeth and our overall heath is excellent.

Dachshund Nola

Cards, Lollipops, and Visitors

Hi Doxies, dogs and cats! I have 5 new Christmas cards! From The Roo Family, Dachsies with Moxie, Cole, Beckett and Meadow (who looks like me), Basset Momma and my good friends Lola and Tucker. Thanks everyone!
Today, while I was being a perfect angel, Auggie crept slowly and sneakily into Mom's room. He climbed onto the bed and stole a lollipop off Mom's night stand!!! Little beast! I haven't recently would never do that! Santa Paws is watching you Auggie!
We cleaned a bunch today. I was ignored despite my plaintive whining! Guess what? My great grandparents are coming down from Richmond VA tomorrow! YAY! I've learned some new tricks! Jump though a hoop, watch mommy, touch and go to your spot.
Dachshund Nola
From Dachshund Nola's Mommy: Despite what Tiny Teckel says, she wasn't ignored and I put the mop down several times to play with, feed, pet and put a shirt on the little munchkin LOL. Apologize for the poor quality of these pictures.
Theses are my letters, and not yours!!

Dogs and cats can get along!
