Hi everyone, happy weekend! Today Mom, Sweetie and Sugar are taking me and Boston to Subaru's Pets and Their People event! Auggie and Charlotte have to stay home, Charlotte 'cause she's still a baby and Auggie 'cause he's not very sociable at at all. I'll post about it on Monday, and Wednesday is my FIRST Blogiversary! I can't believe it's been almost a year!
But enough about that till Wednesday here's a picture that Mom says I look like a sea otter in.

A Lovely Photo Of Four Dachshunds (yeah right, dream on)

So last night Mom got the crazy idea to take a picture of us four Doxies together. She says any peep with multiple dogs will know what she went through to get three decent shots. Of course the other three have no clue how to act in front of the camera, poor things (shakes head). They don't realize that you have to look at the camera and hold still, while giving a the camera a soulful gaze or heart melting head tilt.

Tell me something furiends, I have full right to push my gawjuss self into full view of the camera when some other, much less gawjuss or photogenic, pup is getting it's picture taken don't I? Mom says it's rude, I say it's right.

Vaccines: Where Do You Stand?

Hi all! Happy first of March! Before we begin, Vancouver went to his new home yesterday! Second, my aunt A has bronchitis, and we'd really appreciate if you could send her some good thoughts for a fast recovery.
Now, I want to know what you all think about vaccines. I go to the vet in April for my yearly exam and my rabies vaccine. Mom's deciding what else (if anything) to let them give me. We're researching but I'd love the opinions of my Blogville family. Do you think vets are over-vaccinating us? I do, to some extent. I'll you some of what I've found. Please note, I am NOT a vet, these are solely my thoughts and opinions I've formed form research. Professional advice should always be sought from a licensed veterinarian when considering vaccines and other medical issues.
New research says that many of the vaccines vets pushed yearly are good for three years, if not for life. Over-vaccinating can be just as, if not more, dangerous then going without them.
Note from Dachshund Mommy: I'm a firm believer in less is more when it comes to vaccines, and will not have Nola vaccinated for something she is not at risk for.
Vaccines are usually given at 6-8, 12 and 16 weeks old. Rabies is given at 6 months. Vaccines are divided into core and non-core categories:
CORE:
Distemper
Hepatitis
Parvovirus
Rabies

and
NON-CORE:
Leptospirosis (more commonly called Lepto)
Parainfluenza
Bordetella (Kennel Cough)
Lyme Disease
Canine Cononavirus
Canine adenovirus-1
Giardia
Rattlesnake envenomation

That's a lot isn't it? Thankfully, a lot of the non-core's you might want vaccinated for a depends on where you live. Here is the list of shots that, from what I've read, are suppose to be good for 3+ years:
Distemper
Hepatitis
Parvovirus

There might be more, and feel free to tell me if there are, but these were the 3 I saw most.
What I know I'm getting is the rabies vaccine (sadly it's yearly in Tallahassee) and most likely Lepto. Mom's going to ask the vet about Lyme and bordetella.
Where do you stand on vaccines, and what do you usually get? How often? Once again I am not a vet, this post is solely my opinions and research. Some good articles on vaccines can be found in the links below.

Dublin Went Home!

Hi all! Yesterday Dublin, now Charley Brown, went to his new home! His peep is a very nice man who will take great care of him! Whenever we get updates I'll post them on the blog. There's some of Vancouver (we haven't found a new parent we approve of for him, but as of now we're interviewing two possibilities).

A Rather Embarrassing Post and Eggs

Hi all! Okay, I have an ongoing issue I must tell you about: I have sensitive skin. Not like only hash stuff bothers me, I mean almost EVERYTHING bothers my skin. Dog soaps, certain foods, floor cleaners, flea treatments, even some kinds of grass! Homemade food has helped a ton with these issues, but I still have a lot. The issues I have require the following:
I can't eat anything with corn or soy, even a little bit of soybean oil in treats gives me hives. So no getting treats from the nice people at Petsmart or from the vet's.
Mom uses Pine Sol to clean the floors and it has to be very little Pine Sol to a ton of water, and she has to dry the floors before I go on them.
I only get flea drops when it's absolutely necessary, sadly in Florida that's most of the spring, summer and fall.
I can only use puppy soap or extra gentle oatmeal dog soap.
My bowls are stainless steal and not plastic.
I prefer leather collars.
I have to get baths about once a week to keep the dirt and grass off my skin, and wiped off with all natural puppy wipes every night.
It's no fun at all!
Now, what I'm about to tell you is quite embarrassing. A couple days ago we took a rainy, muddy walk and all three of us Doxies were covered in mud and needed a bath. We only had one kind of dog soap on hand, something from Pet Head, so after debating whether or not to use it on me Mom decided to use a little bit of it watered down. Well yesterday I was lounging on Mom's lap when she noticed... a zit!!!! I get these sometimes with certain shampoos but they're usually around my face. This one was on my ehem lady parts!!!!!!! OMD, I am so humiliated!
Do any of you have skin problems? How do your peeps help you with them?

Hi all! Today I'm going to introduce you to some of blog's less frequently mentioned cast, as well as reintroduce you all and my new furiends to the main cast.

a.k.a The Spitfire

I'm a 1 year old, 8lb (barely), smooth haired Sable miniature Dachshund. I'm named after New Orleans LouisianA or NOLA. This blog is about ME, and my life as a crazy, fun loving Doxie. I have corn and soy allergies, so I'm the reason we eat homemade food. There really are no words to describe me, stick around and you'll see why!

Augustine
a.k.a Auggie, Minion Number 1, Little Blond Thing, Brother

Auggie is my favorite minion/chew toy/brother. He's a 1 year old 12-13lb, smooth red dilute Tweenie Dachshund. He's a few crayons short of a Crayola box, but he's so sweet, loving and tolerant he makes up for it. It doesn't hurt that he's very handsome either. He has an incredible nose and loves to track anything and everything that moves. Auggie is a HUGE chow hound, and because of that the peeps have to watch what he eats. Speaking of which, he has a major sweet tooth and once ate an entire bag of sour gummi worms on the way to Richmond VA. He then vomited in the car. ALL OVER SWEETIE!!!

Boston
a.k.a Minion Number 2, Sister and Clingy Girl

Boston is a 1 1/2 year old, 12 lb, smooth red dapple Tweenie Dachshund. She LOVES people, other dogs, and cats and is the social butterfly of us three. She is INCREDIBLY clingy with Sugar and is very unhappy when he leaves. She loves tennis balls and hates the water. Boston and I had a rocky relationship at first, but it's smoothed out nicely now and will even more when she gets spayed in the next few weeks.

Charlotte is the 8 week old, shaded red daughter of Boston and Auggie. She's a feisty little mini me and I love playing with her (very gently).
Saphira
a.k.a Kitty Sister, Crackhead

Saphira is my 5 1/2 (roughly) year old rescued kitty sister. She is an absolute catnip addict, hence her nickname of Crack Head. She's very mischievous and incredibly smart, and loves dogs. Last year she went missing for 2 months, only to be found again at our local shelter. You can read about that adventure here and here.

Star
a.k.a Grumpy Pants

Star is just a little bit older then Saphira, we adopted them at the same time and from the same shelter. Star is a massively fluffy, massively cranky, massively lazy long haired tortoiseshell cat. She's not the friendliest but we love her anyway. We will have had Star and Saphira six years on Oct. 20th.

The Chickens
a.k.a Mom won't let me eat them

We have nine chickens: Hippie Chick, Dinette, Alexandrea Halmilton, Wendy, BBQ, Ketchup, Mayo, Speckle and Mustard. Despite the names, the chickens are for pets and eggs only (I have no idea why people waste perfectly tasty chickens). No rosters here, its a girls only club for them!

George
a.k.a Mom won't let me eat him either

George is a hermit crab. He doesn't do much. At all. He spends most of his time in his coconut house or in his bath tub.

Hi everyone! I've got some great stuff to tell you about today, but first I'm in need of Blogger help. Okay, so (one of) my currant issue with Blogger is my blogroll. My older one, where most of my furiends are, isn't letting me add new blogs or delete old ones so I had to make a new blogroll to add my new furiends to. Anyone else having this issue or know how to fix it?

Second, my good furiend Basset Momma has passed the Hope Unites Globally HUG Award on to me! Thank you Basset Momma! This is my favorite award I have recived, because of the criteria which you can read here. Now for a pupdate! Dublin has a new home! We met his new owner, a very nice man who is so excited to have a Doxie pup, last weekend and he put a deposit down and Dublin can go home next week when he'll be 8 weeks old! Dublin's new name is Charley Brown.
Now with Vancouver, it didn't work out with him being my puppy. So we will be meeting his potential parent later today!
Charlotte is staying with my Aunt H.

And finally, February is Pet Dental Health Month. Mom brushes my teeth every night, and gives me lots of things to chew on in addition to the raw fruits and veggie in my food.
How can you help keep your pet's teeth clean and tarter free? Easy! Simple things like:
Brushing their teeth at least once a week, though daily is best. Please only use tooth paste made for pets.
Giving strong beef bones for them to chew on, as well as hard toys like Kongs.
Giving crunchy dog food and treats, raw carrots are great for scraping plaque from teeth.
Avoiding a lot of canned food
All of these things are great for keeping your dogs teeth clean, which leads to better overall health. Did you know that 95% of cats and dogs will have dental problems requiring correction by a vet at some point in their lives? A dirty and infected mouth is not only painful, it can cause serious problems in other parts of the body such as the heart, kidneys, intestinal track and joints. Scary! So please, keep your pet's teeth pearly white!

Why I'm Fed Homemade

Hi all! Today I want to tell you all why I'm fed homemade food, why it works for us, answer some questions you all have asked me and I'd love to know what you all are fed.
As most of you know, I have really bad allergies to corn and soy. I break out in hives, scratch till I bled, get ear and eye nasties and am very lethargic and unhappy if I eat corn or soy.
My peeps tried so many brands of dog food, including Pedigree, Science Diet, Blue Buffalo, AvoDerm (this dry food worked best for me), Nature's Recipe and Natural Choice. It started to get really expensive and I still wasn't in top condition.
Where else to turn? Homemade! I'll admit, Mom was a little unsure of homemade at first. Is it nutritionally complete? Is it healthy for my Nola? Will she eat it? Will her teeth get dirty? Check, check, check and heck no!
Within the first week of eating homemade food my coat grew back sleek and shining, my skin completely healed, I had so much energy and my ears and eyes were great.
Why am I not fed raw you ask? Well, Mom doesn't know how the meat we use is raised, handled, fed or slaughtered so she's not taking chances.

My food, all ingredients easily identified.

Pros of homemade food:
If your dog has allergies you can easily (and cheaply) remove them from their food.
You know how the food is prepared and what goes into it.
If you like to cook like my Mom, you'll really enjoy it.
If you don't like to cook or don't know how, it's very simple to do. All that you cook is the meat.
Your dog get variety in her diet.
Your pet is in great condition.

There are a lot more benefits, but this post would be HUGE is I listed them all.

Cons of homemade food:
It's not as easy to travel with as commercial dog food.

How long does the food last? The food usually last about a week, but you could make a big batch and freeze some.
How to you store it? In an AIRTIGHT container in the fridge.
How much does each pup get? I, Nola, eat 3/4 of a cup a day. Boston and Auggie usually get 1 cup a day.
What about treats? Sometimes Mom makes our treats but we usually get corn/soy free, by product free treats.

A Dox of A Different Color

Hi everyone! What Remains Now asked what color I am, and I'm here to tell you all about it!
Dachshunds come in more colors, patterns and shades then other other breed recognized by the AKC (American Kennel Club for my foreign friends)! So understandably it was quite a quest to find out what color I am.
The colors are red, black and tan, black and cream, chocolate and tan, wild boar, cream, Isabella (fawn) and blue. The patterns are dapple, brindle, piebalds (although they are no longer excepted by the AKC) double dapple and sable.
Sable is the rarest (no Dachshund color is is so rare you should pay more for it) color and is ALMOST exclusively in longhairs. I am a Sable, which is a dog with a base color (in my case red) with each hair being tipped with black and the color always displays a widows peak. It took almost 8 months for Mom to be sure of my color BOL.
It's one of the questions I'm asked most on walks "Ohh I've never seen that color! What is it? I just love her little face markings".

Monday Mischief: The Not So Indestructible Kong

I'm joining Monday Mischief!
First off let me tell you, I was never much of a chewer when I was a puppy. A princess has better things to do with her time (like commanding her loyal ~~servant~~ subject to carry her tiny self to the one spot in the yard that was suitable for me) than chew on random objects. BUT, I have always loved my little red Kong toy, even though Mom's been hard pressed to find stuff to put in it as I hate PB. I'm not a big chewer, but I'm a strong chewer.
Last night Mom gave me my Kong and she hears this awful riiiiipppp sound and a happily munching Doxie. I chewed off the top part of my so called indestructible Kong!
Heehee it was the only way I could get the treat out! I guess I get the black Kong now.

Hi all! Here are the pictures from Tuesday's beach adventure! We went to St. George Island, one of the most beautiful "forgotten coast' beaches in Florida that's also dog friendly!
I got to go off leash, I've been working hard on my recall and Mom let me off to run and play as much as I wanted! But as soon as she called me I dashed back and sat in front of her for my neck sratchies!

1 head of broccoli, including the stem
3 carrots
1 cup pineapple
2 stalks of celery
About 10 small radishes
2 TBS brewers yeast
2 TBS ground flaxseed
1 tsp mint flakes
Pinch of salt
2-3 TBS olive oil
1 TBS parsley flakes

How are the puppies and their mommy doing?
The puppies and Boston are doing great! They're started eating puppy food and have had their first bath, their eyes and ears are open and they're walking (very unsteadily but still).

What's your craziest quality? What about you drives the peeps nutso?
Well, and I must be honest here, I'm damn near perfect BOL! BUT if you asked my crazy peeps, they'd probably say what drives them crazy is whenever they leave without me, I poop right in the middle of the walkway. What drives Mom crazy too is that I like to jump off the bed (yes I do have a ramp) and I land hard, Mom's paranoid about my back.

Kitty+Coco ask:
Have you ever gotten hold of a squirrel?
Sadly no. I know I could, but we don't have a fenced yard so I go out on a leash.

What Remains Now asks:
What are your dimensions? You look very petite.
Oh I am proud of my figure! I am 8lbs with a 11 and a half inch waist, 17 inch chest (heehee no wonder everyone was sure I'd get a Pawty date fast BOL) and am 28 inches from nose tip to tail tip.

Mister asks:
Have you or any of the other doggies been to their namesake cities?
Not yet! NOLA and and especially Boston are really far from us, but I don't know the peeps' excuse for not taking us to St. Augustine. It's right here in Florida and one of Mom's favorite FL cities!

Tootsie asks:

What inner strength did you tap into to help you not eat that bacon bit in front of you? Any advice for a fellow Doxie, regarding stay?

Well Tootsie, I learned ''wait'' (not stay, still working on that) by Mom putting food in front of me, saying wait then if I moved to take it without her saying okay she'd grab it before I could. Then once I grasped that (only took a few minutes) she'd give me a better food reward then what I was resisting PLUS my favorite neck scratchies! So when I leave food I know I'll get a better treat and scratchies! Win win! Note: training a Doxie is very hard if you haven't started some form of learning and training between 8 and 16 weeks.

Hi everyone!!!! OMD I missed you guys and I am BACK! The Comcast guy finally came to fix the internet and I gave him hell for depriving me of the net and my furiends. CLEARLY he did not know who I am (the nerve of some people) and that you do NOT deprive ME of ANYTHING! I am not a cave dog, I live in modern times. I was so loud in telling him off Mom put me away in the bedroom (again, the nerve of some people).
ANYWAY, remember the My Peep is a Flake contest? For third place I got these super yummy treats from Pawmetto made of 100% freeze dried chicken liver. They are sooo good, and I refuse to share with Boston and Auggie heehee. They're the perfect size for me and nothing to bother my allergies. There's quite a few in the bag, so a great value for such a high quality treat. When the arrived here they came with a sweet handwritten thank you note. Thanks to Frankie, Sarge and Road Dogs for hosting the contest and to Pawmetto for providing such a great prize!

My Sweetie's First Doula Birth

Hi everyone! On Jan. 18th I was contacted by Brent, a rep for Mr. Chewy.com, asking I would like to a $50 coupon in exchange for my honest (never a problem for me, as I'm sure you know) review of the service. After debating on the legitimacy of it, I emailed him back saying I'd be happy to review.
Mr. Chewy.com is an online pet food retail company offering over 70 brands of dog and cat food, treats and supplies.
Their website was very user friendly, and offered so many products that my local PetSmart doesn't carry. Mom had a bit of an issue placing the order (now that she looks back, she sees it was entirely user error BOL) and emailed Brent several times asking for help. He responded within hours with patient suggestions and reassurances that he would get the issue fixed. After Mom (idiot BOL) figured out how to order, she placed it late Thursday night, Jan. 19th, and we received it today on Tuesday Jan. 24th. Fast! One of the things Mom and I loved most is the had SO many treats without corn and soy, it was like the website was made just for me!

We ordered:
Taste of the Wild Dry Cat Food (for kitty sister Saphira) 5lb
Healthy Bones treats, 8oz
Bil*Jac Little Jacs small dog training treats, 10oz (I can't find this size in PetSmart!)
Zuke's Mini Naturals, 6oz
Vitality Chicken Breast Strips, 5oz
Milk Bones, medium size 10lb (for our local shelter.)

The website had so much more to offer then local stores, and had so many treats that were safe for me to eat! A much better value than my local stores, and I would defiantly use them again. I am 99% satisfied with their products, service and shipping. Only 3 issues for me: some of the treats for cats were in the dog section (and vise versa), a few products were out of stock, and the big box of Milk Bones was slightly dusty. Other then that, website was easy to navigate, costumer service was superb, shipping was fast and nothing was dented or torn. Thank you Mr. Chewy for this great offer, it was a pleasure! I would recommend this to all my Blogville furiends, especially those of us with allergies.

Hi everyone! I played in the mud around our neighborhood pond and Mom claimed I needed a bath if I wanted to sleep in ~~her~~ my bed. Is she crazy?! I'm a hound dog, I need to get dirty! I also got my teeth and fur brush. I don't mind that though; tooth paste is yummy and brushing feels good.

1/4 head of broccoli, grown in our garden

1 tsp mint flakes
A pinch of salt

2 TBS brewers yeast
It made 13-14 cups of food. Yummy!

Hi everyone! This week's food has chicken, potatoes, rice and green beans. Sugar forgot to add brewers yeast and flaxseed to the food, so each morning I get 1/4 tsp of each. We've also starting adding ground eggshells (for calcium) to each of our morning meals, I get 1/4 tsp and Auggie and Boston 1/2 tsp.

I started my blog on March 7th 2011 on Blogger

2. What was your original purpose for starting a blog?

My purpose for starting my blog was to document my life as a crazy, fun loving Doxie and to share my adventures.

3. Is your current purpose the same?

Yes and no. It's still first and foremost about ME, but now I like sharing advice and products that have worked for me, keeping up with my friends and current happenings in Blogville. I also love sharing my experience and success with homemade food, and hope it can help others with food-related health problems. For my Mom she likes experimenting with photography.

4. Do you blog on a schedule or as the spirit moves you?

I blog whenever the spirt moves me, that just happens to be daily.

5. Are you generating income from your blog?

No I am not. Though I have been contacted about, I don't want to commercialize my blog.

6. What do you like most about blogging in general and your blog in particular (bragging is good!)?

I LOVE blogging because of all the friends I make and advice I get. I love our close-knit little community, and am very happy to be a part of it.

I love blogging, I'm really passionate about it and love doing it.

I love MY blog because I have adventures, I'm so cute, I'm funny and always have fun.

7. What do you like least?

There really isn't much I don't like about blogging! Except for issues with Blogger, it's a blast.

New Food Day

Hi everyone! New food has:

2 1/2 cups cooked dark meat chicken, chopped tiny. Note: Mom puts about a 3 inch piece of chicken skin in to help with our coats, but don't over do it.

3 whole carrots, chopped small

3 Celery stalks, also small. You can adjust the size to fit your dog or if you have more then one to fit your smallest

8 radishes, cut small. First time I've had these, they are YUMMY!

1 can green beans, Mom cut these as they were kind of big

1/2 cup chicken broth

3 1/2 cups raw oats

2 TBSP brewers yeast

2 TBSP organic ground flaxseed

It's yummy!

Dog Park, Pizza and An Unpleasant Surprise

Hi everyone! I had a busy day today. First the humans took me to the dog park. There was only one other (un neutered) dog there and he was mean and snapped at me while his lazy owner did nothing.

Then we got pizza!

That was yummy!

Then when we got home Mom and Sugar took me and Auggie on a walk.

But towards the end of our walk we passed this house where a big golden retriever lives and he was outside (off leash) with his family. As we walked by he charged us! Mom snatched me up but Sugar didn't have time to grab Auggie before the dog was on us, teeth bared and growling. Poor Auggie circled Sugar's legs squealing like a pig. It took quite a while for the man to control his dog, and all we got was a grunted ''sorry"! This wasn't a onetime thing either, this dog as gone after kids. Auggie and I are traumatized!

After that terrible experience I got a bath

11 Of The Most Major Reasons Why My Peep Is A Flake

Hi everyone! This is my entry for the My Peep Is A Flake contest hosted by Sarge, Frankie and Road Dogs. This will be good, I have so much dirt on my flaky Mom.

11 Reasons Why MY Peep Is A Flake:
1. She NEVER wears matching socks. Unless she's sick or they're knee high, she wears mismatched socks. When she gets a new pack she opens them and takes two different ones out!
2. She keeps every ticket stub she gets, including ones from movies, concerts, museums, and parks.
3. She has a little cactus plant that Kitty Sister is very fond of knocking over. Sometimes she puts it (the cactus not the Kitty) in the windowsill to get some light, and as soon as she puts it there Kitty Sister knocks it over. So what does my Mom do? Reaches out and catches the cactus!!! Crazy!!! And this isn't a one time thing either, she's grabbed it at least 7 times.
4. Her fingers are always freezing, even in the summer.
5. She LOVES gaudy clothes, shoes and accessories.
6. She's incredibly klutzy, but not as much as my Sweetie BOL
7. She cannot walk in heels. She falls flat on her butt if she's not holding the wall.
8. She frequently opens or closes doors on her toes, fingers and face
9. She can't stand chipped finger nail polish, but leaves it on her toes till it's worn away.
10. She yells at the TV, oven, dishwasher, shower and other inanimate objects. She says talking to them is perfectly fine as long as they don't talk back.
11. She's a recovering plant murder

So there we have it! 11 reasons my peep is a flake.

New Food Day and a Pupdate

Hi Doxies, dogs and cats! Since Boston is so very hungry, Mom made more food again. This food has:
2 Chicken Breasts, cooked of course
2 green bell peppers
20 baby carrots
3 stalks of celery
1 can of peas
4 1/2 cups of oats, raw
1 cup rice, cooked
2 TBSPs brewers yeast
2 TBSPs ground organic flaxseed
1/4 cup chicken broth
Yummy! Boston gets as much as she wants (brat), Auggie gets 1 cup, I get 1/2 cup in the morning and 1/4 in the evening.

The puppies are doing good, but there won't be many pictures till they're bigger and don't need to eat and sleep as much. Mom doesn't want to disturb them or Boston by moving them to a brighter room for pictures. They get weighed and handled daily, so they'll be happy being held when they're bigger. Boston is doing good, hungry but a good mom.

Hi everyone! Didya miss me? Of course you did. Yesterday was all about Boston and the babies, but this blog is named Dachshund Nola and it's about ME! A Labor Of Love

Hi everyone! I'm going to let Mom post and tell you about Boston's labor and delivery.

Hi all! Dachshund Mommy here, and I'm going to give you a blow by blow of Boston's birth process. WARNING!! This post contains birth pictures, and details of said birth.
So here we go.
After a restless night for Boston, she had her first puppy at roughly 11:40 am (I have the time written down, but I'm too lazy to go get it).
He's a healthy 8oz light red dapple, and has his daddy's appetite. After cleaning him thoroughly she lays down to let him nurse, and the poor little thing can't find her nipple and is nosing around her leg. After more shifting from her and nudging from him he finally finds one and settles down to eat loudly.
But not for long, as Boston is restless and shaking again. Another puppy on the way. She stands and paces around the whelping box, and puppy #1 doesn't like it and lets out a shrill cry. Boston stops in her tracks, looking from me to the puppy in absolute bewilderment. She lays down again but as soon as he latches on she shifts and after a minute of pushing baby #2 is born at 12:30. She cleans his face and chews his cord and eats his placenta (it was nauseating to watch), then lays down to nurse her two baby boys. Baby #2 is 7.5oz and is the most beautiful dapple I have ever seen.
Boston takes a well deserved nap as her boys nurse, and I remove some very dirtied blankets from the box. When I finish I go out of the room and play with very worried Nola and Auggie and get some OJ, trying to fight off this stupid cold.
I go back in with Boston and sit down, and she immediately nuzzles my hand so I pet her for an hour and a half as she labors with the third puppy. She's having a much harder time, as this baby is higher in her uterus then the first two and she is very tired. Then she lays her head in my lap and after nearly 30 minutes of hard pushing the third puppy is here, still encased in her amniotic sac. Boston doesn't even look at the puppy, she is so tired. So I reach for a wash cloth and carefully break the sac open. As soon as the puppy cries Boston is there to finish what I started. This last puppy, a baby girl the spitting image of Nola, is born at 2:25 and weighs 6oz.
Boston is very tired and sleeping with the babies. Yep, everyone seems to be thinking the same thing as me: she was awfully big to have just 3 puppies. But we're all thankful for a heathy momma and 3 precious babies.

A Tasty Tuesday

Hi everyone! Mom made new food yesterday but since she's been sick (she was sick on Christmas, that was no fun at all) she was too tired to post about it yesterday.
So here it it! New food has:
3 1/2 chicken breasts
2 green bell peppers (my favorite!)
10-15 baby carrots
2 celery stalks
3 1/2 cups raw oats
1 cup cooked rice
1 TBSP brewers yeast
1 TBSP organic ground flaxseed
It's so tasty and fresh!

A Doxie With Moxie Muses: Getting A Puppy For Christmas

Hi everyone! I'm introducing a new weekly segment to talk about issues in the pet world. From my personal pet peeves to enormous issues like dog fighting and puppy mills, I'll give you the facts then my own opinion. So tell me where you stand on the these problems, or suggest what you'd like to see talked about next.
So without further ado, here's my very first A Doxie With Moxie Muses: Getting a puppy for Christmas.

Who wouldn't love to wake up to a puppy under the tree? Answer: the puppy.
A puppy needs your full focus, as well as a safe and calm environment. If you're busy with presents, family, friends, food, decoration, money and travel, you simply cannot give your puppy the attention and watchfulness it needs.
Having a puppy come into your life during such a chaotic time isn't fair to you or the puppy. You won't be able to bond as well, the puppy will be scared with such strange sights, sounds and smells on top of new people and having just left the only family it's ever known.
Puppies explore with their mouths. Think about what we have out at Christmas: lights, food, presents and plants that we usually don't have around. Many of the holiday food and plants are poisonous, and don't forget the beautiful Christmas lights and their cords just waiting for your puppy the chew on them and get shocked.
Reputable breeders won't sell you a puppy for Christmas, out of fairness and concern for the puppy.
Now, if you're single or a couple with no kids, and don't have plans for the holidays, Christmas would be a good time to get a shelter dog (as said above, most breeders won't sell a puppy around Christmas) and have you and your partner if you have one give it the attention it deserves. This is only a good idea if you don't have company over or a bunch of unsafe decor.
Once everything calms down, a puppy would be a great way to start the new year if you are ready for 10-15+ commitment. Or go to a shelter and find your new best friend. Either way, please wait for the right time to bring your puppy or dog home.

As you all know, my Gotcha Day is Dec. 9th. This was a perfect time because I was with my family long enough to be bonded and adjusted and could enjoy the Christmas fun. We also didn't have big plans.
So there we go! What did you think? Where do you stand? I mean no offense at all to any dogs that came home on Christmas.

Guess what Mommy got fro Sweetie and Sugar.... A BRAND NEW CAMERA!!!!!!!!!! It's a Nikon D3100. It's such a great camera, so now my pictures can be even better. All of my previous ones have been with Mommy's iPhone.
She also got a pair of high top Converse sneakers, her favorite in purple. Thank you Sweetie and Sugar from Mommy and me!
