Hi, all! Today I'm doing a review for Hilltop Leather Shop, a small, family owned company that makes absolutely beautiful genuine leather dog collars, leashes, bracelets and horse supplies, among other things. I am very excited to do this review! The quality is to die for, not to mention everything is to die for gorgeous. And they're very affordable for the quality!
A bit about Hilltop Leather Shop:
Hill Top Leather Shop invites you to come on up to the hill!
Welcome to our little leather shop on the hill in Sadieville, Kentucky! All of our products are made one at a time by members of the Broner family. We have no factory, no assembly line, no inventory of "cookie cutter", pre-made items. When you place your order, we select and hand cut the leather for YOUR order. We stitch and/or crease to YOUR specifications. All edges are hand smoothed and the finish is hand painted and buffed to a fine luster. From start to finish, your product gets our personal attention to every last detail. We even do all of the engraving in our own shop to ensure the best of quality for you, our customer. If you have any questions or concerns about our products, before or after a purchase, we encourage you to give us a call. You will be talking to someone on the other end who has had their hands on your product from start to finish and who will do their best to ensure your complete satisfaction!
Our leather shop is a family affair which began in 1990. Glynn is a master leather craftsman, and he cuts and stitches every item that we sell. I do all the finish work (trimming threads, hand rubbing and hand painting edges) and our daughter, Alyssa, is our engraving specialist (runs our computerized engraver) as well as our resident web designer and also helps us with product design and marketing.
We are owned by two Jack Russell terriers (Molly and Axel), and a Schnoodle (Maggie) and our work is overseen at the leather shop by our shop kitty EEOs (Environmental Enhancement Officers) Annabelle and Alexander the Great. To complete our menagerie, there is Just G, a super dressage pony, and Dan Dee, a goofy and personable Appaloosa that my daughter trains and shows.
Hilltop Leather Shop is also on Etsy, and you can find them here: Hilltop Leather Shop on Etsy.
Even though the shop makes products other than those for dogs, I'm focusing on their dog products for obvious reasons. ;) They have (their website prices are slightly different from their Etsy prices; below prices are from their website):
- Creased leather collars (starting at $10)
- Creased leather leashes ($20.50)
- Stitched leather collars (starting $12)
- Padded leather collars (which is what I got to review. Staring at $21)
- Padded leather leashes (also reviewing this. $30)
- Rolled leather collars (starting at $26)
- Rolled leather leashes ($50)
- Designer padded collars (starting at $31)
- Crocodile print padded collars (starting at $28)
One of my favorite things about these collars is home customizable they are! From colors for the collar, brass or silver for the hardware and name plates, to different font options (Block, Bold, Romand and Script) available in either all caps or mixed caps (except the Script option).
Their rolled, stitched, creased and outside part of the padded collars come in the colors shown below:
Black, dark brown, medium brown and carmel
Pink, orange, royal blue, teal, red and purple
Purple, lavender, pink, berry red, raspberry, red, orange, tan, bone, olive green, hunter green, slate, turquoise, teal, lime green, ultra blue, royal, black, white and dark brown.
The collars come in 5 sizes, though I'm sure they would welcome custom orders as well:
I picked a padded leash in black with "ultra blue" padding and silver hardware. I was very shocked and happy when Hilltop Leather Shop included the matching collar with my name on it! It was a lovely surprise.
I'm not walked on a collar, this is for photo purposes only.
It's a 5 1/2' leash
I've said it already, but I am so incredibly happy with the quality of these products. You can see and feel the care and detail put into each item. The nameplate is securely attached to the collar, and the nameplate hasn't marked up hardly at all despite me wearing it for about 3 weeks straight.
Great prices for the quality
The leather smells incredible, BOL
Securely attached name plate
Tons of options
Good customer service
Lots of sizes
This is just related to their Etsy shop, but the padding colors photo on Etsy isn't 100% right. When Mom picked the "ultra blue", she picked from their Etsy shop and the "ultra blue" looked more like the sky blue of my Puppia harnesses, instead of the darker blue it is.
I wish they made harnesses
Overall, I give Hilltop Leather Shop 5 out of 5 stars, and 2 paws up! I will definitely get another collar or leash from them if something happens to my current set. So head on over, and tell em Nola sent ya!
Kisses and Tail Wags,
The nameplate on the day the collar arrived. DM: Isn't the font gorgeous! This is the "script" kind.
The nameplate yesterday
DM: I thought the fact that the padding didn't come all the way to the notch would annoy me, but I actually like it!
Disclaimer: we were provided a leash in collar set in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
