Dachshund Nola Reviews: PetFoodDirect's Winter Apparel

Hi, everyone! A few weeks ago a rep from PetFoodDirect contacted me and asked if I would like to do a review of some fun winter and holiday apparel. Clothes, and a chance to model? Heck yeah! They sent me the cozy Hurtta Polar Dog Vest and the adorable SPOT Holiday Waiting for Santa Thermal PJs. I'm gonna break this down into two mini reviews, so here goes!

Hurtta Polar Dog Vest:
I liked this vest! From the site:
Great for everything from daily walks to hunting, the Hurtta Polar Dog Vest is a soft and warm tool to protect your dog while active. Close fitting and made of rustle-free Softshell fabric with a laminated water-resistant Houndtex® layer, this flexible vest will protect your dog's rib cage while keeping it dry. Around the neck, there is a tag with space for owner's telephone number and because of the Hurtta Polar Vest's inherent warmth, it is NOT recommended for summer use.

Even though this is too big for me (it's a small when I needed an extra small or extra extra small), I can tell it's very warm and cozy, highly reflective (great for cold night walks), isn't constricting, and (when it's the right size) would be close fitting enough not to catch on anything.

Snap to help stay closed

Write your phone number here

Momma, this is too big. It makes me look fat

One thing I did find weird about this is that you zipped it from her shoulders down, instead of from her back up.

PROS:
Warm
Flexible
Tight fitting but not restricting
Comes in three colors; pink, orange and yellow
It has a convenient tag on the inside where you can write you phone number incase you get separated from your human.
Very soft
Has several highly reflective strips to keep you visible at night
Step in as opposed to pull over the head
Has a snap to help hold it close in addition to the zipper

CONS:
It does get dirty fairly quickly; there are already smudges on it and I only wore it to take pictures
Price
The zipper can be a pain
No opening for a harness

SPOT Holiday Waiting for Santa PJs:

These are too cute, and so well made! (FYI for my Doxie friends: if you get this you'll probably need to roll up the sleeves) From the site:

If your dog can't wait to see good old St. Nick, then the SPOT Holiday Waiting for Santa Thermal Dog PJs are perfect for your pup! Warm and cozy on the those chilly wintery nights, these long-john type pajamas add a festive flare with their red color and embroidered back that reads "Waiting for Santa".

These are (shockingly!) long enough to cover my back! They're cute, festive, very well made and the perfect thing to wear on Christmas morning.

All warm and toasty! Check back next Tuesday for a review of my gawjuss new leather collar!

Occupational hazard of being a Doxie: rolled sleeves.

PROS:
ADORABLE!
Cozy
Well made
Warm
Festive
Good price

CONS:
This is breed specific (Doxie, possibly Corgi and Pekinese), but the sleeves are a tad long

Overall, I loved both of these products! 5 out of 5 stars for the PJs and 3 1/2 stars for the vest (because it gets dirty easily, no harness opening and it didn't fit me). Head over to PetFoodDirect to check it out!

Kisses and Tail Wags,
Dachshund Nola

  6. I will be honest with you Nola, normally I don't like dogs in clothes but somehow, you make it work! You are so stinkin adorable and those colors just really look so great on you! Do you look bad in anything? You are like one of those skinny supermodels that could wear a paper sack and still look good! Love it! :)

  7. Lovely winter gear, the PJ's are real leg and bum warmers, I can see that you have to roll up the arms soooo much. The people who design these should talk to you first and get some sizes re-arranged for the littler doggies. Cheers from Jean
