Not So Wordless Wednesday

This about sums up how Nola's been feeling.
Nola is feeling a little better, and has not vomited since Monday evening. Her appetite is still touch and go; she'll scarf down rice soaked in chicken broth one minute and turn her nose up at plain chicken the next.  I have absolutely no idea what is wrong with her. It's not her food or treats, I don't think she ate anything, it's not a virus (no one else is showing signs of sickness.), I'm at a total loss. She ran around some yesterday and followed me around, which is an improvement over Monday. She's hydrated, I've made sure she's getting water, GatorAid and chicken broth frequently. She's lost some weight (she's only 8 1/2lbs when she's not sick, so it's not like she has weight to loss) but is looking less bony today. If her appetite isn't back in full force in the next few days we'll pay the vet a visit.

I am not ashamed to admit that I MAJORLY panic when anything is remotely wrong with Nola. These past two days I've been a nervous, Google-happy wreak and have been thinking about the absolute worst possibility imaginable, haha. Oh well, I'm in good company in Blogville ;)! Thank you all for your well wishes and crossed paws, and please keep em coming! They're definitely working.

Hugs,
Dachshund Mommy

  1. Hopefully it's nothing serious and she'll bounce back in the next day or so. Could she have eaten something she shouldn't have when she was out in the yard? Or maybe licked a toad or something?

  3. Nola sweetie pie, what's going on with you? We are right up there with your Mom, worried sick! We sure hope you start feeling better real soon. Otherwise Mr. Vet might have to give you a shot in your tushie and we would NOT like for that to happen!

Please know we are sending you tons of prayers and good wishes.

  9. So sorry to see that Nola has not been feeling well! It seems like you are doing everything right. What has often worked for me is trying turkey/chicken flavored baby food to bring the appetite back (warmed up).

  17. Dachshund Mommy....
I have been a bit busy lately, so my commenting has seemed scarce. Oh my, I had no idea about Nola!! I am so sorry that you have spent hours worrying, worrying, worrying!! Yeah, I get it. Last Summer, Rose was suffering with a mysterious limp. She did not seem otherwise in any pain, so we continued our (slow-paced!!) walks. I massaged her "ouchy" shoulder. We rested. A lot. I prayed for my little girl. God knows how much she means to me!! I, too, was a Google-happy wreak, plus my fingers also thumbed through dog health books. And. I allowed my mind to consider whether or not this may be some sign of a young death for Rose. I snapped pictures and spent time with her constantly!! This all lasted for, if memory serves me right, three days!! And, yes, a non-dog friend thought I was nuts!! Well. Jury's out!! Because I do not care about being nuts!! I love my Rose!! She is well and healthy now!! ;-D
I am glad that Nola is doing better!! Take care!! --Hugs!!-- ;op
Love, Raelyn.... And Rose, my BEAUTIFULLY UNIQUE "Mystery Dog"!!

  20. Aww, so sorry to hear Nola's not feeling well. I know you said no one else is showing signs of illness but absolutely everyone around these parts is sick. Hopefully it's just a bug that will work itself out shortly.

It's always nerve-wracking when our little ones are sick. We'll be thinking of you.

  26. Momma is the same way. Puff has been acting the same and she had to wear a sweater all day yesterday because momma caught her shivering. We are glad your precious girl is showing some improvement; might just be some funky bacteria cold thing. Our rule is 3 days then a phone call to Dr. Julia; five and an in-person visit. Sending White Dog healing energy and positive thoughts that Nola is on the mend.

  27. My mom is the same way. It means you are PRESENT! :) Paws crossed for Nola. All my love, Tootsie (This from Tootsie's Mom: After Toots's Aleve ingestion toxicity and illness last spring, I freak when things are not right. And when your beloved Charlotte passed and it was so heartbreaking, it just makes sense to be super aware of how our beloved pups are feeling.)
