New Food Day and Mom Update

Hi everybody! Thank you all again for the nice comments and support for my Mom. They worked because she feels much better this time then last!
For anyone new that doesn't know, I eat homemade food due to severe corn and soy allergies. I've been on homemade for about 8 months, and am doing absolutely fantastic! You can read about why I'm fed homemade and it's many benefits here.
Tuesday Mom mixed up a big batch of food (2-3 weeks worth among 4 Dachshunds) and here's what's in it:
A lot of meat. Mom forgot to measure, but it's chicken, beef and pork.
3 green bell peppers, chopped
6 carrots, plus a hand full of baby carrots, cut small
4 cups pineapple
1 stalk of celery, chopped
7 cups of raw oats
1 teaspoon salt
5 tablespoons of ground organic flaxseed
4 tablespoons of parsley
Put into freezer bags and freeze! All done!
Kisses and Tail Wags,
The Not at all spoiled Dachshund Nola
Green pepper is yummy!
nom nom nom
Top to bottom:
Oats
meat
pineapple
carrots
celery
green pepper

2-3 weeks worth of food for 4 young, hyper Dachshuns

  1. That sounds pretty good, guess it wouldn't last me too long though. Does your mum use cooked or raw meat? Deccy x

  3. I cook for Whisky too. I make a chicken stew with some carrots, zucchini, celery, pumpkin and sweet potato. Then I add a tablespoon of raw oats. But after about a week of this, she started to cough so hubby suggested cutting out the raw oats and the coughing stopped. I will try again and see if it happens again. She used to eat cooked oats and had no problems with that. Guess every furkid is different. :)
Did your Mom get her upper wisdom teeth removed this time? I have to get mine out (upper) but am trying to avoid it for as long as possible. I had my lower ones removed years ago. Ouch.

  8. Your poor mom...I hope she is feeling really better today!

I'm so impressed with her food prep. My daughter was telling me about the raw feeding for poochies and she was curious how Tucker and Stewie would be on that.

Still feeding kibble...if I'm not to personal...how are the poops on the diet and how about the teeth...they say that poochies teeth improve on home / raw foods than on kibble.

  10. Great news on Mom - hope she has a great weekend.

That food looks so good - wish we could get Mom to do that for us.

Hope you get to try the chicken jerky, so easy peasy and sooooo good. Plus you know exactly what is in it.

  11. Way to go Mom....for feeling better and for making such a wonderful feast. All of that looks soo delish. We will have to seek in this recipe for mamas to make. We always love it when mamas make a salad cuz they share all their veggies. Have a great weekend my friend. ~Weinerful Gang~

That looks scrumptious, better than the cardboard pellets we get, although at least we get chicken to make them taste nicer!

  13. Glad your momma is feeling better...hope her recovery continues smoothly! And wow, you dinner looks tastier than my kibble. (Too bad my mom is scared of the raw meat stuff...she was a vegetarian for too many years!) Thankfully, though, she does buy me top notch kibble. :)

  14. Dachshund Nola....
Wow-ser!! That is some meal you've got there!! ;)
I have question, though.... I read somewhere that celery is not good for dogs because it is too stringy? But I am wondering.... Is that true? I have a crunchy biscuit recipe which I'll eventually bake for my BEAUTIFULLY UNIQUE Beagle/German Shepherd cross, Rose. It calls for "diced celery". Any advice would be appreciated!! ;op
Now I am off to type for my blog!! ;-D
Happy Friday the 13th to you!! ;-O

  17. I am so glad Mommy is better. That food looks really good. Mommy gave me green pepper once but I had kind of bad tummy back firing reaction, if you know what I mean, so we avoid that now. The rest looks so good.

  20. Lady and I are so glad your mom is feeling better. What do you do when you get it out of the freezer? Do you eat it cold? DO you cook your meat? We can't imagine letting em eat raw meat here. You should see the butchers! No refrigeration, flies, dirty chopping blocks... Meat doesn't come all nice and clean on a styro tray with celo wrap. Soemtimes it's alive, or it is hanging out in the open on hooks.(Lady says she's glad she is a vegetarian).
